Guitar Lessons

BEGINNING GUITAR. AGES 7 – 16. {I start a little older with guitar, than other areas of study.}

Does your child enjoy music & have they expressed interest in playing the guitar? Kids truly learn different than adults when it comes to guitar, and teachers must start slow, especially when it comes to kids under 10. I know how difficult it can be for small hands/arms to simply BALANCE the guitar on their lap, let alone play! I start out very slow with….

* Several Simple Finger Strengthening Exercises that build immediate confidence.

* Showing how to Ring Out a Clear Tone on a string.

*Teaching each of the String Names and easy fun ways to remember them.

*How to Hold a Pick in the proper way.

*Very Beginning Guitar Chords that are possible to learn, even with small hands. And they sound “cool”!!

*Learning how to Read Simple Sheet Music, and what frets/strings the notes correspond with on the guitar.

*Learning the Parts of the Guitar- to get to know their instrument better.

*Learning How To Tune their guitar. This is a very important process in learning the guitar, and takes time and patience in developing this skill.

We will spend quite a while on these basic steps, but before you know it, your child will be ready to read, play and sing along with simple songs on the guitar.

And the further we get, your child will be encouraged to pick out their favorite songs they would like to learn, as well as start writing their own!! Some of my past students have truly blown me away with the songs they have written. It’s a very exciting process for me to watch and participate in.
